"We Are Not Alone"

Dr. Price massaged his failed heart, and pumped oxygen into his lungs. He paged the cardiologist, who injected epinephrine, slamming the thick—long needle through his breastbone and into his heart muscle. But he was gone

John Price tried to console his son in the Limo ride to the airport. Michael barely spoke. His heart was as broken in life as much as Dr. Jack Redman’s was in death.
John was very disappointed. On the plane ride back to Sydney, he questioned himself about the dose, but understood the circumstances clearly enough. Was it too little or too much?
“Why did his damn heart have to fail?” He repeatedly asked out loud, before and even as he dozed off, continually it seemed, just prior to arriving at home.

Sara and her daughter cried from their loss, but at the same time were so thankful that they bonded as a family; that he smiled and told them how much he loved them. The women thanked Dr. Price over and over and hugged him. They were so grateful. John could hardly speak. He wanted to tell them how truly sorry he was, but he had found for the first time in his life, he was at a loss for words. Michael hugged them both and they both solemnly said goodbye, but only after Sara asked them to stay with her and her daughter, for a while. A request for Michael to come over and take some of her husband’s priceless things would have been something that Michael could only have dreamed about; But he was so despondent that he really didn’t care about acquiring that which belonged to a man who he so much aspired to spend time with.
